I stumbled upon an article today on Moneywatch.com, a branch of CBS news, that was titled “Feed a Family of 4 on $10 a Day.” I thought to myself “is this really possible?”
Here are some the the ways they said you could do it:
- Eggs. Since you can by them for as cheap as $99 cents per dozen, they are great for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- Canned beans. 79 cents for a 16 oz. can.
- A five-pound roasting chicken. At $5, it can be enough for 2 dinners.
Throw in some vegetables or potatoes.
- Oatmeal. At $4, you have about 30 servings. Much cheaper than cereal.
- Bananas. At 49 cents a pound, you have your self a very cheap snack.
Maybe not the best sounding meal/snack ideas but you’re not going to have to shell out wads of dollars on this plan.
