Started in February 2008 as a simple news aggregate set of pages on consumer scams at lehos tecHeadlines and near-frauds committed on consumers every day, this page grew like crazy in just a few hours.
So, we created a place for it and expanded the concept to broaded, web-related unethical & criminal behaviors.
Light dawned on us that this would cover more than just consumer money rip-offs; it went much further!
We got involved a few years ago, almost by accident, with a consumer rip-off on the Web called Webloyalty, among other names. We had been stung personally.
“Web Scam or Business in The USA As Usual??” is the title of the story published as a news article on our site “TempSensor.NET” a Directory of Vendors and Resources, and at that time (2005) one of our technology News outlets. (Its task is now handled by another, News Only site.)
The Webloyalty case went to court, as we reported in December 2006: Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Massive Consumer Fraud.
[NOTE: And the sting goes on, judging by the more recent 27 consumer complaints filed on RipOffReport.com!]
The action was not initiated by any of our appointed and elected officials (who are supposed to be on the watch for such things), but by a class action lawsuit initiated by irate consumers.
What does it take to get scammers and con artists arrested and banned from harming citizens, especially those least able to afford it? It takes a lot of complaints and to the proper authorities, like to the Federal Trade Commission in the USA. Click here to get their generic Consumer Complaint Web Form.
In the USA, many items that skirt the edge of the law abound.
Far, far more use the law and their abilities to play a shell game of hidden fees, “changes to policy”, after the fact and other devices to unethically wrest hard-earned money for the “mouths of babies”, literally.
The best offence in these situations is an informed public and that’s what the Web does best.
That’s what this site is about.
Feedback, inputs and comments appreciated and recognized, as you wish.
